Raglan Sweater: Saturdays, 10am - 1pm
About: Cut, customize, and sew in a communal space with guidance provided. I’ll be providing guided instructions on how to work from a paper pattern, take measurements, make some adjustments to customize it to your body, and sew your sweater! See our Custom Climate Beneficial Cotton/Wool Sweater as the example.
Why: Making your own clothing is extremely gratifying! Having the ability to make adjustments according to your measurements is a lifelong skill to continue to develop and keep. Adapting the basic skills of garment making will not only give you the pleasure of taking ownership of your wardrobe, and choosing your own material; it will also make you want to keep what you’ve made (helping prevent further waste). It will also provide you with it’s own challenges, which will also give you greater appreciation to understand what it takes to make a garment.
Materials: All materials will be provided! Please make your material selection by adding your choice to your cart below! Click on each for more information. Materials will be provided on location, select Local Pickup on shipping options.
You also have the option of bringing your own fabric (don't select anything below and be sure to prewash it). We encourage you purchase deadstock from a distributor in LA. We also encourage you considering investing in the only California producer, Lanis' Lana, currently producing fabric by the yard. These fabrics are much higher cost but support the efforts of growing the California fibershed! Please consider shipping time, a little over a week, and also be sure to prewash it!
Additionally, by bringing your own sewing machine, you can receive $10 off the workshop cost. Please add the code 3DXV3X9 on checkout!
Sizing: You will select your sweater size on checkout. You will cut and customize your pattern in class and be able to take it with you! See our size guide for more information.
Experience: Beginners - Intermediate. If you're brand new to sewing and would like additional guidance using a sewing machine prior to the workshop, check out Stitch Salon's various offerings. Our group size will range from 2-6 people.
Time: 10:00am - 1:00pm
Should you not be able to complete your project within the given time, we provide 2 additional opportunities:
Sewing Lab will be offered on Sundays from 10am - 1pm. You'll work independently and guidance will be accessible. See the workshop page for dates.
Stitch Salon provides Monday night group lessons in the same location for 1-2 hours.
Location: The workshop will be held at Stitch Salon in West Adams, address below. Please allot for an extra 10 minutes to find street parking! We look forward to seeing you!
