Ryukyu ai, or Okinawan blue, serves as an emblem of the natural hue that colors sea and sky in this small island in the south western region of Japan. Okinawan Indigo, Strobilanthes Cusia, is still being grown, processed, and used as a natural dye by various practitioners on the island.
